For God and Country

"For God and Country is dedicated to the September 11th rescuers who knelt before Fr. Michael to receive absolution before entering the Twin Towers. Theirs was the ultimate sacrifice, as noble as any heroic deed retold in the ancient epic poems such as 'Beowulf' or 'The Tales of King Arthur.' They faced great evil with love and sacrifice reminding me of the words from Rupert Brook's poem, 'The Soldier.'
'And think, this heart, all evil shed away,
A pulse in the eternal mind, no less.'
I hope that my quilt represents the power of their convictions."
