The American Spirit Quilt was designed by Quilt Heritage Foundation President Nancy Kirk. The stars and stripes represent the American Spirit, the cross blocks honor the firefighters, police, Red Cross and other relief workers, the tower blocks honor the workers in the towers who lost their lives, and the butterfly blocks are symbols of resurrection and rebirth.
