HERO QUILTS

submitted by Susan Heydt

The Thimbleberries Quilt Circle of Mount Joy, PA is working on a project called Hero Quilts.

At present, we are hoping to produce and ship approximately 300 quilts to the families of the fallen NY Firefighters by distributing them through the various stations. Please forward our mission on to others you may know who quilt.

Our hope is to have twin size or smaller quilts completed - something that the entire family can use, perhaps on the back of a sofa, for comfort. Please use whatever pattern appeals to you - some people are suggesting red, white, and blue fabric, but anything is welcome. Please include your personal message on a patch in the quilt as well as your name, city and state. Several years ago I was involved with the ABC Quilts Project. Each quilt bore the inscription "Love and Comfort to You". This would most certainly work, but feel free to inscribe as you desire.

If you are planning to ship more than one quilt - for example, if you have a guild working on them - email me before you ship them. I may have totals for firehours and we could save the expense of shipping twice! Encourage those who might want to contribute but don't sew to contribute $1 stamps to ship your quilts or others.

Several people have inquired about Police Officers, EMTs, etc. Let's see if we can cover the Firefighters, and we'll work from there...

People can email me for further details.
