Welcome to the American Spirit Quilt Project

HOW QUILT GUILDS CAN HELP THE AMERICAN SPIRIT QUILT PROJECT

Quiet Valley Quilter's Guild of Bennington Vermont makes charity quilts throughout the year. One Saturday each year they have a workshop day to work on these "Quilt Cupboard" quilts. Members can donate "extra" blocks they may have at home and/or fabric. Once or twice a year little projects are put together to create more blocks (sometimes a technique is taught). At each guild meeting members are asked to work on certain jobs for the 3 to 4 quilts that are always underway. They have given away 18 quilts so far in 2001, in 2000 they gave away 9 quilts. Most of the quilts go to local people who have lost everything in fires. They also make ABC quilts for "at risk" babies.

Sunshine Quilters in Southern California has added the American Spirit Quilt Project to their guild website. They are also going to get the Southern California guilds to make quilts for the families of the fire/police that perished in the attempted rescue. They hope to have them made by early December so they can be shipped in time for Christmas.

Blockaid Mystery - Judy Hopkins is offering Mystery quilt that your guild can do as a fun project. Either to create quilts for yourselves or to create quilts to give to local charities. To receive the BlockAid Mystery instructions send a self-addressed, stamped envelope to Judy Hopkins, 3231 Douglas Highway, Juneau, Alaska 99801. Allow a two to three weeks for delivery.
